About the Project
This role is part of a large-scale climate resilience initiative focused on reducing the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) in Nepal.
Due to rising temperatures, glacial lakes in high-altitude regions are expanding rapidly, increasing the risk of sudden flooding. This project aims to:
- Reduce water levels in high-risk glacial lakes
- Strengthen early warning systems
- Build climate-resilient infrastructure
- Enhance institutional capacity for disaster response
The project is implemented with Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology under government collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Studies & Engineering Support
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments
- Review engineering designs and technical reports
- Perform site visits and prepare technical documentation
- Simplify technical concepts for stakeholders
2. Design & Construction Supervision
- Review designs, BoQs, cost estimates, and drawings
- Support procurement and bidding processes
- Supervise construction and ensure quality standards
- Ensure climate-resilient and inclusive infrastructure
3. Project Monitoring & Reporting
- Track progress of engineering works
- Prepare technical and progress reports
- Maintain documentation for audits and compliance
- Support project planning and budgeting
4. Environmental & Social Safeguards
- Ensure safety standards during construction
- Monitor environmental and social compliance
- Promote gender inclusion and accessibility in infrastructure
5. Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing
- Conduct training and awareness programs
- Develop guidelines for infrastructure sustainability
- Support local communities and stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Education:

Master’s degree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Water Resource Engineering
- Construction Management
OR
- Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of relevant experience
Experience:
- Civil engineering design and project management

Experience in:
- Hydrology or climate-resilient infrastructure
- Mountain or remote area infrastructure
- Disaster risk reduction projects (preferred)
Required Skills
- Strong engineering and analytical skills
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and design tools
- Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Understanding of climate change and GLOF risks
- Excellent reporting and communication skills
- Fluency in English and Nepali
